The Spring 2025 General Meeting
Saturday, May 10th is nearly here! The donuts and coffee have been ordered. The presentations have been prepared. And the Kroger gift cards are ready to be awarded. I hope you are ready to attend. Be sure to join me and other retirees on May 10, at the First Unitarian Church of Cincinnati, Reading Road and Linton Avenue. The social hour starts at 9:00 a.m. The guest speaker will be Jon Salstrom, Executive Director for the City Retirement System. Upon entry, register at the front desk and get you ticket for a Kroger gift card.
Website
The only thing worse than a “stale” website is doing nothing about it. Well, the Governing Board has embarked on the process of updating CMERA’s website. Over the next year, we will investigate options for our website. More links to senior-oriented events or organizations? Maybe alterative payment options? If you have an idea for us to consider, let us know at ([email protected]) or mail suggestions to our PO Box.
CRS Board
The CSA established a new Board to govern the CRS. The Board now has four (4) members appointed by the Mayor (with Council approval), two (2) active employees, and three (3) retirees. The term of the Board members is four (4) years with a maximum of 12 consecutive years. There will be an election next year for one of the retiree positions. Consider serving on the CRS Board.
Insurance
Insurance is part of our lives (and sometimes deaths). It helps protect our financial assets from unexpected loss. We insure our homes, cars, health care, vehicles, etc. Individuals, companies, and even organizations like CMERA have insurance – just in case. CMERA has what can best be described as a “minimal” protection package. CMERA has no building, vehicle, rented office, or employees so our insurance needs are not significant. We have only:
- General liability insurance – protects CMERA “general” claims involving bodily injuries and property damage.
- Director’s & Officer’s (D&O) insurance provides liability coverage for members of CMERA’s Governing Board to protect them from claims which may arise from decisions and actions taken as part of their duties.
- Crime (theft) insurance – protect against loss due to dishonesty, forgery, theft, and the disappearance or destruction of property.
We review our policies to help us get the most appropriate coverage at the best price. We recently received some quotes for new policies. Each time I review these proposals, I read something that makes me wonder what caused this to become an exclusion in an insurance policy. So, please do not file a lawsuit against us for silica dust, narcotic traffickers, terrorist acts, showing sexual content, perflubutane sulfonic acid, and/or and nuclear incidents.
Until next month
